This illustration was based off of a photo by artist and friend, Nick Ko.
I was incredibly drawn to this photo by Nick. Before beginning this illustration, I researched Macau’s economic and income gap situation. I learned how it’s one of the world’s richest cities with an incredibly large income gap amongst its citizens. Most of the wealth is gripped by the casino owners and real estate developers. I read how locals have to travel between mainland China and Macau each day to afford food and housing and the wages from the casino industry is barely enough.
This made me think for a long time about the idea of worship. When human needs and a healthy future in your home become harder to attain, where do you turn for worship?
